Under the four-year academic structure, undergraduate students are required to achieve 30 credits in subjects under the General University Requirements, with the objective of broadening their horizons and promoting their holistic development. Students are also required to fulfill Discipline-Specific Requirements to develop fundamental discipline-specific knowledge and skills, so as to prepare them to become professionals in their chosen field.
Students of PolyU will be exposed to countless learning opportunities both inside and outside classroom, allowing them to specialise in their interests and follow their dreams.
Vigorous classroom learning is designed to build up students’ professional knowledge and hone their skills. A wide array of "Out-of-classroom" learning activities, such as mentorship programmes, industry-based student projects and study tours, are also made available for students to equip themselves and explore possible career paths. Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are offered to accommodate different interests and needs, and for the all-round development of students.
With a focus on multidisciplinary collaboration, PolyU fosters innovative research to meet the changing needs of society and advance technology frontiers. Students have vast opportunities in engaging in research projects.
The University has outstanding performance in knowledge transfer, contributing to the advancement of businesses and industries. Many innovative ideas of students have been turned into reality, bringing positive impact to the world.
To nurture bright minds to become leaders of tomorrow, PolyU put strong emphasis on Service-Learning, Leadership Training and Work-Integrated Education.
PolyU is the first institution in Hong Kong to launch the credit-bearing Service-Learning programme, which connects professional education with societal needs, providing opportunities for students to apply their knowledge in improving the lives of those less fortunate.
In addition, PolyU provides a wide variety of leadership development programmes for students in Hong Kong and Greater China through its Global Youth Leadership Institute, aiming to nurture the mindset, knowledge and skills needed to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Another unique feature of PolyU’s undergraduate programme is our mandatory Work-Integrated Education (WIE) programme that requires students to engage in authentic projects or work as interns in an organisational context. With a variety of local and offshore intern opportunities offered in Hong Kong, Chinese mainland and overseas countries and regions, WIE enables our students to attain workplace readiness before graduation, thus enhancing their competitiveness.
Global and Mainland Exposure
PolyU’s extensive global connections help broaden the international perspectives of future generations. The Belt and Road Initiative has further given a new momentum to the University’s effort to internationalise and broaden students’ outlook. Also, PolyU has a solid presence in the Chinese mainland, with six regional centres established in Shenzhen, Sichuan, Hangzhou, Xi’an, Beijing and Shanghai.
We have established strategic partnerships with universities, institutions, industries and corporations all over the world to offer study, exchange, internship and Service-Learning opportunities for students to learn without borders and unleash their talents under different cultures.
In particular, our Student Exchange Programme offers the opportunity to study in over 240 renowned universities across 36 countries and regions. Every year, some 700 PolyU students go on exchange and a similar number of inbound exchange students come to the University.
