Under 4-year curriculum, students will be admitted on a Faculty basis with broad-based education in science in the first year. Students will have a free choice of 6 Majors leading to award of the Bachelor of Science programmes below. Students can apply for their Major of study before the end of first year.

Biology

BSc(Hons) in Applied Biology
- The programme is structured to provide background and training in the biological sciences to meet local and global needs in the fields of agriculture and fisheries, biotechnology, biomedical research, conservation, environmental monitoring and pollution control, health and sanitation.
- There are 2 Concentrations: Biotechnology and Environmental Science.

Chemistry

BSc(Hons) in Chemistry
- The aim of the programme is to provide students with a strong foundation in all principal areas of chemical science and knowledge in developing career and solving real-life chemical problems, and to meet the needs from government, education, industrial or commercial sectors.
- The curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge of pure and applied chemistry required for employment or postgraduate study.

BSc(Hons) in Analytical and Testing Sciences
- The aim of the programme is to provide students with a broad-based training in major scientific disciplines to support their study in multi-disciplinary analytical and testing science.
- To promote the analytical and problem-solving skills required to solve the diversity of problems encountered in students' future careers.
- To equip students with the knowledge and practical skills required to contribute to the growing analytical and testing industry.

Computer Science

BSc(Hons) in Computer Science
- The general aim of the programme, which is accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers#, is to prepare students for a career in computer science or information technology related areas or to pursue postgraduate study.
- This programme stresses on innovations in computing technologies and information systems, and their applications to real-world problems. It consists of three Concentrations of study, namely i) Computing and Software Technologies, ii) Information Systems and Analytics, and iii) Data and Media Communication (with an interdisciplinary focus jointly offered by Department of Journalism).
- Students are able to gain IT work experience training through summer internship and 1-year placement opportunities.
- The programme offers diversified outreach opportunities for students such as study tours, overseas internship, overseas summer research programme and overseas study exchange.

# A reaccreditation will be undergone in 2017. 

Mathematics

BSc(Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics
- This programme is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in mathematical and statistical concepts with an aim towards developing logical thinking and analytical skills that are applicable to various career fields.
- Special emphasis on applications in industrial and commercial areas is stressed, and students are well trained in the use of various computer software packages to solve real-life problems in management science, logistics, computer visualization, computational finance, engineering design, actuarial science, clinical research, industrial applications, social science research and others.
- Concentration options in Operations Research, Scientific ComputingQuantitative Data Analysis, Financial Risk Management, and Actuarial Statistics. Students can graduate without any concentration or with one or two concentration according to their interest and career goal.

Physics

BSc(Hons) in Physics and Green Energy
- This programme aims at preparing students for a career in physics and/or in the energy sector that involves applications of scientific principles and modern technology. The specific objectives are to equip students with:
   (a) A solid and broad foundation in physics to build up their careers or to pursue further studies;
   (b) Experimental, theoretical, and computational skills to meet the needs and challenges of contemporary society;
   (c) Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- There are two optional study concentrations:
   (1) Concentration in Applied Physics
The Applied Physics Concentration provides mathematical and theoretical skills that are essential for further study or technology applications. The upper level courses are designed to (i) strengthen analytical and experimental physics skills, and (ii) tackle applied physics problems in modern technology. Students who opt for this concentration will be ready to go on to graduate schools in the relevant disciplines or engage in careers in technology or industry.
   (2) Concentration in Energy Management and Technology
This concentration caters for the career-oriented students who will take additional courses in energy science and technology. In particular, two upper level courses in energy management have been developed to align with the globally recognized Certified Energy Manager (CEM) programme under the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Our graduates can take the CEM exam offered by the AEE Hong Kong Chapter and become eligible for the CEM credential after some years of relevant working experience.

Career Opportunities

Our graduates receive broad-based training that equips themselves with experience in analysing scientific problems using an inter-disciplinary approach. Besides securing employment in their own fields of expertise, graduates often take up scientific research, management, marketing/sales, banking/finance and teaching posts in sectors like commerce, government, education and community services. Some graduates will pursue further study.
 

Remarks:

Students may have the option of taking an integrated programme by extending their undergraduate study by one year, leading to the award of a bachelor's degree in that Major plus a Diploma in Education.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

For 2017 entry, we accept repeat results and will count the best results for meeting our entrance requirements and for the calculation of admission scores. The arrangement for 2018 entry and onwards is subject to confirmation after a review of the experience in the former exercises.
