A11b.

Please click here for further details.

A12.
How are offers made?

Each programme will give you a rating in accordance with its criteria for selection. Such rating will determine your position in the merit order list of each programme of your choice. The computer system will match (the "iteration process") the order of preference you have assigned to the study programmes of your choice with the position you have been placed in each merit order list of these programmes. You will then be made an offer of the highest priority on your programme list for which you have the required rating.

You can download the "Iteration Process" here.

A13 I have obtained the same results as the applicant whose position was in the "lower quartile" of a programme as published in the Admissions Grades / Figures, but I did not receive any offer, why? Information on admissions grades / figures is for reference only, and should not be used to predict the chance of admission to any programme in subsequent years.

It should also be noted that not all programmes select students on the basis of HKALE and HKCEE grades alone and the actual grades of the students admitted to each programme may vary from year to year (depending on the overall grades achieved by applicants in a particular year, the number of applicants applying to the programme, changes in selection criteria, etc.).

A14 I have obtained better grades in my HKALE than my classmate, and we have both selected the same programmes. Why is it that he / she has received an offer but I did not? Your HKALE and HKCEE grades alone do not determine whether you will enter an institution of your choice. Other factors come into consideration such as information contained in your application form, and for some programmes, interview(s) and/or test(s), overall grades achieved by other applicants in the current year, and the number of applicants applying to the programme, etc. It is therefore not appropriate to only compare grades between applicants.
A15 I have fulfilled the minimum entrance requirements of a programme. Why is it that I am not given an offer by the programme? Admission to the institutions is on a competitive basis, since the number of places available is far less than the number of eligible applicants. In this regard, satisfying the minimum entrance requirement of an institution or a programme does not therefore guarantee admission.
A16 What are merit order lists? Are they compiled by the JUPAS Office?

A merit order list is a rating list. Each programme you have applied to will give you a rating in accordance with its criteria for selection.

Merit order lists are compiled by the respective programmes' admissions tutors. Therefore determination of applicants' suitability for admission is entirely the decisions of the 9 participating institutions under JUPAS and is entirely independent of the JUPAS Office.
