Will I be admitted as long as I have satisfied the minimum entrance requirements of a programme?

Admission to the universities is on a competitive basis, since the number of places available is normally far less than the number of eligible applicants. In this regard, satisfying the minimum entrance requirements of a university or a programme does not therefore guarantee admission.

Your HKALE and HKCEE grades alone do not determine whether you will enter an institution of your choice. Other factors come into consideration such as information contained in your application form, and for some programmes, performance in interview(s) and / or test(s), overall grades achieved by other applicants in the current year, and the number of applicants applying to the programme, etc. It is therefore not accurate to only compare grades between applicants.

How are offers made?

Each programme will give you a rating in accordance with its criteria for selection. Such rating will determine your position in the merit order list of each programme of your choice. The computer system will match (the "iteration process") the order of preference you have assigned to the study programmes of your choice with the position you have been placed in each merit order list of these programmes. You will then be made an offer of the highest priority on your programme list for which you have the required rating.

A flash demo which briefly describes the iteration process can be downloaded from the JUPAS website.

Determination of applicants' suitability for admission is entirely the decisions of the JUPAS participating-institutions and is entirely independent of the JUPAS Office. The role of the JUPAS Office is solely to facilitate the administration of the admissions process. Enquiries on the tertiary institutions' decisions should be directed towards the institutions concerned.

By the time I know I have HKALE results revised in overall grade(s), the Main Round offer results have already been announced, and the quota of all programmes have been filled. In this case, would I be disadvantaged?

You can be assured that you will NOT be disadvantaged in any respect if

  1. you can fulfil all the necessary requirements of the programme concerned; and

  2. your new positions on the respective merit lists (re-determined taking into account upgraded results, interview performance, if applicable, or other factors) are higher than the Main Round cut-off point of the programme concerned.

Having fulfilled the above requirements, you will be offered admission to the programme you have applied for, regardless of whether the quota of that programme has already been filled.

[FAQs]

What should I do if I wish to submit a request for reconsideration of my application based on my revised HKALE grade(s)?

If you have HKALE results revised in overall grade(s) and wish to be reconsidered for an offer or a "better" offer, you can submit a request for reconsideration of your application via the JUPAS website at http://www.jupas.edu.hk on 31 July 2010 (9:00 am - 6:00 pm) regardless of whether you have been made an offer or have accepted an offer in the Main Round or not.

If you already have been made an offer in the Main Round and wish to accept this offer, our advice is that you SHOULD accept this Main Round offer while your request for reconsideration is pending, because this is the only offer you will receive in the case that you do not receive a "better" offer.  Please note that if you are given a "better" offer (i.e. a higher preference programme of your choice, and which is also the FINAL offer) on the strength of the revised grade(s), your original offer in the Main Round will be withdrawn.

As from the 2010 cycle, you can submit a request for reconsideration of your application on 31 July 2010 (9:00 am - 6:00 pm) by logging in onto your online application account at the JUPAS online application system at http://www.jupas.edu.hk --> Login my JUPAS online application system, using your 8-digit application number as your login name and the password you have previously selected.  Paper form submission will NOT be accepted.

During this period (i.e. 31 July 2010, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm), you can, if you so wish, RE-PRIORITIZE and / or DELETE the programmes that you have already chosenNo fee will be charged for these changes.  You are however NOT allowed at this stage to add any new programme to your choices, or to delete the programme you have received offer in the Main Round.

A confirmation page will show you your updated programme choices after the re-prioritization and which have been saved into the system.  After the confirmation page has appeared on your screen, you should print out this page as record of the programme choices you have selected and submitted.

You will also receive an email and a SMS message (only applicable to those who choose to receive) from the JUPAS Office upon successful submission of your request.

It is the responsibility of the applicants to check for such messages. If they believe they should have received such messages but it does not appear they have, they should enquire at the JUPAS Office immediately.  [Help desk hours: 31 July 2010, 9:00 am - 7:00 pm]

Please retain a copy of the confirmation page and confirmation email as a proof that your choices have been successfully changed.

In the event of any dispute or queries, the JUPAS Office will ONLY accept this printed page as official evidence. No other documentation in hard copy or electronic form will be accepted.

You are also advised to login onto the system again to check and confirm your choices have been successfully changed and saved.

Please also note that no further change will be allowed after the deadline of 31 July 2010 (6:00 pm).

An online demo on submission of request for reconsideration of your application which will guide you through the process can be downloaded from the JUPAS website as from 1 June 2010.  You are advised to go through the online demo before submitting your request.

If you are already satisfied with your Main Round offer and do not wish to be reconsidered for other programmes, there is no need for you to go through the procedures specified above.
