Sub-systems / Scheme of JUPAS
The Sub-systems / Scheme for JUPAS are:
- Sub-system for Applicants with a Disability;
- Sub-system for School Principal's Nominations; and
- Self Recommendation Scheme.
Sub-system for Applicants with a Disability
What is the Sub-system for Applicants with a Disability?
The JUPAS Sub-system for Applicants with a Disability is intended to enable such applicants to find out as early as possible the special assistance and facilities institutions could provide to them on their admission. It also helps institutions to identify those applicants with a disability so that they could provide help and advice at an early stage and to give appropriate consideration to the applicants concerned. Applicants may receive an offer under this Sub-system and they will be notified by the JUPAS Office by phone on 22 July 2010. They are however not required to make a decision with regard to this offer. Their applications will continue to be considered by the institutions in the Main Round exercise to see if an even "better" offer could be made to them.
If you have a disability and wish to be considered under this Sub-system, you should contact the JUPAS Office direct as from 15 September 2009 to obtain the details and a separate application form for the Sub-system. Alternatively, you can also download the application form from Download Area as from the above date.
Whether or not you wish to apply through this Sub-system, you are advised to discuss your case with the institutions concerned to find out details of facilities available for the disabled, so that you would be able to avoid programme(s) where a physical disability could hamper your progress (e.g. a programme requiring frequent rural fieldwork). The institutions will be pleased to give you advice at any time and to further discuss any concerns that you may have in this regard.
In the context of this Sub-system, the term "disability" refers to the following types of disabilities:
- physical handicap;
- hearing impairment;
- visual impairment;
- visceral disability;
- speech impairment;
- autism;
- mental illness;
- attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder; and
- specific learning difficulties.
What is the deadline for application?
The deadline for submission of application under this Sub-system is 27 February 2010.
Sub-system for School Principal's Nominations
What is the JUPAS Sub-system for School Principal's Nominations?
The main objective of this Sub-system is to give due recognition to students who have contributed to social services or made outstanding achievements in non-academic areas such as sports, music, social services, other cultural activities, or who have demonstrated leadership abilities. It is hoped that this Sub-system will also encourage schools to provide opportunities for their students to participate in different areas of non-academic activities, and students to make good use of these opportunities. The Sub-system can also provide universities, schools, and students with experience which will be useful in the possible development of a more flexible admissions Sub-system in Hong Kong which does not over-rely on public examination results.
If you are a school applicant who possesses any of the above qualities, you are eligible to be considered for nomination by your school principal.
If you are a non-school applicant who possesses any of the above qualities, and wish to be nominated under this Sub-system, you may approach the principal of one of your previous schools to seek his / her agreement to include you as one of the nominees of the school.
What is the deadline for the Sub-system?
The deadline for submission of nominations by school principals is 18 May 2010.
Will I be accepted by the institutions once I am nominated?
If you are nominated under this Sub-system you will be considered by the institution(s) concerned for your Band A choices as at 24 May 2010 on an individual basis. Nevertheless, it is not necessary that you will be accepted by institution(s).
Institutions may at their discretion
- make conditional offers (in terms of achievements in HKALE) before the announcement of the 2010 HKALE results; or
- give bonus points to you when they compile the merit order list for the computer iteration process to improve your chance of admission to the nominated programmes; or
- give no special consideration to your nomination.
If you are given a conditional offer, you will be guaranteed a place in the programme concerned so long as you fulfil the conditions as specified by the institutions offering you conditional offers. Your application will at the same time be considered in the normal manner by all other programmes of your choice in the Main Round exercise.
When will the outcome of the nominations be known?
School principals will be informed by individual institutions of the outcome of their nominations before the announcement of the 2010 HKALE results. The final decision on admission will be announced together with the result of the JUPAS Main Round exercise on 29 July 2010. (Please also refer to here)
