ACCOUNTING
Short Description
The BBA in Professional Accountancy (PACC) programme underscores accounting as a comprehensive information system for collecting, measuring, reporting, and analysing data to reflect operating performance and financial position, enhance organisational management, and create firm value. It is designed to prepare students to become trusted business advisors who can interpret complex information, exercise sound professional judgment, and contribute to strategic decision-making in a dynamic business environment. Recognising the rapid evolution of the business landscape, the programme also incorporates the growing significance of artificial intelligence (AI), equipping students with the skills to apply AI and advanced analytical tools to address challenges in accounting, finance, and business.
Guided by this philosophy, the PACC programme offers a comprehensive and forward-looking curriculum that enables students to build a strong foundation in accounting, finance, data analytics, and general business. In addition, the programme integrates AI into teaching and learning, complemented by a rich range of experiential and professional development opportunities, including internship placements, alumni network events, corporate visits, overseas study trips, and various workshops. Together, these elements are designed to cultivate visionary business leaders and future advisors who possess a strong leadership mindset, advanced communication skills, exemplary professional conduct, and the ability to apply AI responsibly and effectively in professional practice.
Our graduates have built successful careers across a wide range of industries in Hong Kong and beyond, including accounting, banking, consulting, education, public service, and technology. Many have gone on to take up leadership positions in their professions and organisations, serving as business advisors, financial professionals, data analysts, investment advisors, educators, project managers, public servants, and entrepreneurs.
The PACC programme is well recognised internationally and supported by leading professional accreditation bodies. Graduates enjoy a competitive advantage through exemptions from multiple papers in professional qualification examinations, including those offered by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), CPA Australia, and The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong (TIHK), helping them take a strong step towards successful careers in the business world.
Beyond the core accounting curriculum, PACC students can tailor their studies through specialisation streams, including Global Accounting, Finance for Accountants, Accounting Analytics, and Global Tax and Governance. Each student can choose up to two streams. This flexibility enables students to strengthen their individual profiles, deepen expertise in areas of interest, and position themselves more competitively for a wide range of professional pathways.
Global Accounting Stream
The Global Accounting (GA) stream is a highly selective stream, designed for high-achieving students who aspire to become future business leaders with a global outlook and a strong understanding of international accounting and business practices. The stream provides a distinctive learning experience that broadens perspectives beyond the core curriculum. Through specialised workshops, overseas study trips, and other enriching activities, students deepen their professional knowledge, sharpen their analytical and communication skills, and gain valuable international exposure. In recognition of their academic and leadership excellence, students in the GA stream are also awarded scholarships. With its strong international orientation and exclusive learning opportunities, the stream offers an excellent pathway for students seeking to develop as globally minded professionals and future leaders in business.
Finance for Accountants Stream
As a premier global financial hub, Hong Kong has a growing demand for talented professionals who can integrate accounting and financial knowledge. In response to this demand, the PACC programme offers the Finance for Accountants stream, which enables students to build a strong foundation in accounting while developing solid expertise in finance. Students in this stream take core accounting courses alongside a comprehensive set of finance courses, equipping them with the knowledge and analytical skills to engage in a wide range of business and financial activities, such as consulting, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, valuation, investment analysis, portfolio management, financial planning, and financial market regulation. By integrating expertise in both accounting and finance, students are well prepared for diverse professional pathways in the financial sector and beyond.
Accounting Analytics Stream
With the growing importance of data in business and financial decision-making, organisations are increasingly seeking professionals who can combine accounting expertise with strong analytical capabilities. The PACC programme offers the Accounting Analytics stream to prepare students for this emerging demand by equipping them with both a solid foundation in accounting and specialised training in data analytics. Alongside core accounting courses, students in this stream take a range of analytics-related courses that enhance their ability to extract insights from business data and apply them in professional contexts. This interdisciplinary training prepares students to contribute to activities such as audit analytics, risk assessment, fraud detection, forecasting, performance analysis, and strategic decision support. Graduates of the stream are well positioned to pursue careers in accounting, finance, consulting, business analytics, and other roles where data-driven insight and professional judgment are both essential.
Global Tax and Governance Stream
As an international business and financial centre, Hong Kong offers strong opportunities for students interested in taxation, regulation, governance, and cross-border business. To meet growing demand for professionals with expertise in these areas, the PACC programme offers the Global Tax and Governance stream, which combines core accounting training with specialised tax, law, and governance courses. Students develop knowledge in tax, compliance, and governance, preparing them for business activities such as tax advisory, business restructuring, regulatory compliance, and governance-related functions. They may also receive paper exemptions in professional qualification examinations, including the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualifying examination offered by The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong (TIHK). Together, these features help students build a distinctive profile for careers in tax advisory, compliance, governance, and related business roles in Hong Kong and beyond.
